Sweatpants in public
For today’s outfit I opted for a pair of sweatpants…yes me in sweatpants. I’m not totally insane, to get out of the house looking like a lazy old girl, therefore I chose a stylish way to incorporate them in a street outfit.
One of the definitions for sweatpants is: loose-fitting pants of soft, absorbent fabric, as cotton jersey, usually with a drawstring at the waist and close-fitting or elastic cuffs at the ankles, commonly worn during athletic activity for warmth or to induce sweating.
So what I’ve learned so far? Sweats are supposed to be worn for workout or gym but not in public 🙂
Here are two major tips for how to have a fun and classy look:
1. Pair them with hi-heels shoes. Classic pumps, ankle boots or strapped sandals, anything with heels.
2. Choose a good quality fabric – don’t go for the perfect cotton one – they can easily look as a rag.
For my outfit I chose my lovely Tennis Hi-heel shoes (here more about them) and a suit-like jacket to match them with sweats. If you are more into the boyfriend look, a long blazer and some oxford shoes will give you that sophisticated look. For a more dinner look pair them with a girly blazer and a one shoulder sparkling blouse and stiletto. For a warm day some delicate heels sandals, a fitted top tank and some heavy jewelry will give you the hood aspect and I can go on for a while.
For a fashionable look or for wearing them out in the city:
Do not pair them with uggs!
Go for the close-fitting or elastic cuffs at the ankles.
Do not wear them with sport jacket or college jacket.
And last rule: do not wear anything that looks too loose or too comfortable. Comfortable is the opposite of fashionable 🙂
So do you wear sweatpants in public?
